Douglas Hodge, who won multiple awards and critical plaudits for his role in La Cage aux Folles at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2008, has continued his relationship with the venue, and with La Cage book writer Harvey Fierstein, by directing a revival of his 1982 play Torch Song Trilogy.

Torch Song Trilogy tells the story of Jewish torch singer-drag queen Arnold Beckoff and his encounters with passion, thrills, love and loss. Fierstein himself played Arnold in the show’s Broadway premiere,
and the 1988 film adaptation. The role was taken by Antony Sher in the
1985 West End premiere at the Albery Theatre. In the Menier revival, David Bedella takes the central role, supported by a cast including Joe McFadden and Sara Kestelman.

Torch Song Trilogy opened last night (12 June 2012, previews from 30 May) and continues until 12 August.
