Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ewan McGregor and Kelly Reilly are three of Britain’s hottest young screen stars and they are all alumni of Donmar Warehouse productions. Last night (4 December 2007, previews from 29 November) they joined forces at the Covent Garden venue for the season’s most highly anticipated opening, artistic director Michaal Grandage’s production of Othello.
Along with Ian McKellen’s Royal Shakespeare Company King Lear, this is one of the hottest tickets in town. All advance tickets at the intimate 250-seat venue sold out months ago, and if you want a chance at one of ten day seats or standing room spaces held back for each performance, prepare to camp out at Neal’s Yard.
In addition to the three leads, the company also features Tom Hiddleston as Cassio, Michelle Fairley as Emilia and Edward Bennett as Roderigo, as well as Michael Hadley, Michael Jenn, Martina Laird, David Mara, Alastair Sims and James Laurenson. The production is designed by Christopher Oram, with lighting by Paule Constable and music and sound by Adam Cork.
For 1st Night Photos, our Whatsonstage.com photographer Dan Wooller was on hand for post-show party at One Aldwych along with the company and other first night guests including politicians
Chris Smith and Diane Abbott and pop star Will Young.
