The Young Vic production of Katori Hall's Olivier Award-winning The Mountaintop, directed by JMK award-winner Roy Alexander Weise, will tour the UK this autumn, performing at Northern Stage, Birmingham Rep, Reading Rep Theatre and further venues that are to be confirmed.

The production originally ran at the Young Vic in 2016, and the 2009 play is set on the night of Martin Luther King Jr's murder. WhatsOnStage critic Matt Trueman said it builds "to the most extraordinary climax: ten breathtaking minutes of theatre."

The news comes as Northern Stage announces its autumn season for 2018, which will also include a new production of Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood directed by Elayce Ismail. The new revival will be a technological twist on the classic, which is set across 24 hours in a Welsh village and features a chorus of voices.

Laura Lindow's production of The War of the Worlds will return in September, while the previously-announced touring production of The Lovely Bones, adapted by Bryony Lavery, runs from 9 to 20 October. Mark Calvert will direct Neil Bartlett's adaptation of A Christmas Carol as the venue's Christmas show.

Other highlights include RashDash and Unlimited's collaborative show Future Bodies, which explores the nature of AI, tech and brain implants, English Touring Theatre's production of Othello (which originally ran at the Tobacco Factory in Bristol) and a showcase from the Royal Court Writers Group North.
