War Horse 2019 tour casting announced

Casting has been announced for the upcoming new tour of War Horse, which opens on 15 January in Glasgow after the show completes its current run at the National Theatre.

The tour will then visit Sunderland Empire (6 to 23 February 2019), Marlowe
Theatre, Canterbury (27 February to 16 March 2019), Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent (27 March to 6 April 2019), Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin (10 to 27 April 2019), Liverpool Empire (31 July to 17 August 2019), New Theatre, Oxford (22 August to 7 September 2019) and Curve, Leicester (18 September to 12 October 2019). Further dates are to be announced.

It is based on Michael Morpurgo's novel of the same name, about a young boy who befriends a horse that is sent off to fight on the Western Front.

The iconic show was originally directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, designed by Rae Smith, with puppet direction, design and fabrication by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company, lighting by Paule Constable, and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick, with video design by Leo Warner and Mark Grimmer for 59 Productions, music by Adrian Sutton and John Tams, and sound by Christopher Shutt.

Scott Miller will play Albert in the show, alongside Jo Castleton as Rose Narracott. Ben Murray will play the Songperson.

Further cast includes Mark Matthews (Joey hind), Katharine Moraz (Annie Gilbert), Christopher Naylor (Friedrich/Priest), Samuel Parker (Joey/Topthorn hind), Tom Quinn (Joey/Topthorn head), Gareth Radcliffe (Carter/Strauss), Domonic Ramsden (Joey/Topthorn heart), Jack Simpson (Klausen), Tom Stacy (Joey/Topthorn head), Elizabeth Stretton (Matron Callaghan/Baby Joey), Kenton Thomas (Bone/Schweyk/Vet Martin), Charlie Tighe (Stewart/Heine/Ludwig) and Matthew Trevannion (Sergeant Thunder).

The production will also visit New Zealand and Hong Kong in 2019.
