Top 5 theatre videos of the week: Take That musical opens, Patti sings Company and Kwame Kwei-Armah

We hunt out the top videos from theatreland

From brand new funnies to age-old classics, every week we'll be rounding up our favourite videos from the world of theatre. Watched a video that you think should feature? Let us know on [email protected]

1. Take That musical The Band has its world premiere

After a nationwide search for the show's titular boyband, Tim Firth's new musical with music from Take That had its world premiere at the Manchester Opera House last week. We were on the red carpet to grab three words (quite literally) with Gary Barlow and co. We also spoke with the Five to Five lads and Mr Firth after the show.

2. The science behind Mosquitoes

We just loved Lucy Kirkwood's atom-smashing play about two sisters – played by the brilliant Olivias Colman and Williams – and the goings–on at the Large Hadron Collider. This video released by the National last week offers brilliant insight from Kirkwood and, impressively, actual physicists from CERN.

3. Patti LuPone sings Company

Marianne Elliott's new company (no pun intended) broke the internet recently with the news that two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway superstar Patti LuPone will be playing Joanne in Elliott's production of Sondheim's Company. Which meant we watched the above video on repeat all last week.

4. Kwame Kwei-Armah discusses Elmina's Kitchen

Kwame Kwei-Armah's appointment to the top job at the Young Vic this week had us swotting up on everything he has ever done. This video about the impact of his play Elmina's Kitchen on National Theatre audiences in 2003 is an enlightening four minutes.

5. 48 impressions sing Hamilton

Don't ask us how many hours we've wasted watching impressionists on Youtube, it's a hobby OKAY. And this week we found Jake Dudman, an impressionist who puts his mimicry to musicals. The above Hamilton video is our favourite, but this Les Mis one is also worth three and a half minutes of anyone's time.
