Tom Mothersdale will take on the iconic role of Richard III in a brand new production co-produced by Headlong, Alexandra Palace and Bristol Old Vic, with Royal and Derngate Northampton and Oxford Playhouse.

Directed by John Haidar (Disco Pigs, The Little Match Girl), the piece will open at Bristol Old Vic on 1 March 2019 before touring to the newly refurbished Alexandra Palace, HOME Manchester, Oxford Playhouse and Royal and Derngate Northampton, with another stop at Bristol Old Vic in April 2019.

Mothersdale's credits include The Woods at the Royal Court, King Charles III, Boys and Romeo and Juliet, the latter pair also for Headlong. Full casting will be announced shortly.

Shakespeare's history play, inventively restaged in the new production, will have design by Chiara Stephenson, with lighting by Elliot Griggs and sound and composition by George Dennis.

Headlong artistic director Jeremy Herrin said: "The production promises to be an investigation of the mind of a tyrant; and with Tom Mothersdale in the title role, and directed by the talented John Haidar, it promises to be a deeply engaging event."
