Initial casting for the West End production of Tartuffe has been announced, ahead of the show's opening in May.

The piece will star Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby in Peaky Blinders, The Revenant) in the titular role of Tartuffe. Anderson makes his West End debut in the production.

He is joined by Audrey Fleurot as Elmire, the wife of media tycoon Orgon. Fleurot's previous credits include The Intouchables, Spiral and Un village français.

Directed by Gerald Garutti (former dramaturg of the French National Theatre) and adapted by Christopher Hampton (Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Atonement), the piece follows the seemingly radical evangelist Tartuffe who infiltrates the home of Orgon, all for devious means. The new adaptation will be set in the modern-day USA, satirising current political circumstances.

The production will alternate between English with French surtitles and French with English surtitles. Further casting for the show is to be announced.

Tartuffe runs at Theatre Royal Haymarket from 29 May to 28 July with previews from 25 May.
