Soho Theate will stage a new musical version of Anthony Neilson‘s 1995 play The Night Before Christmas as the centrepiece of its Christmas season.

Directed by Soho's artistic director Steve Marmion with music by Tom Mills, the show reunites the team behind 2009’s Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness and 2011’s Realism.

Running from 5 December to 5 January (previews from 29 November), the show promises "darkly adult themes and a Christmas tale like no other". Working titles for songs include "Not an Elf", "The Filthybusiness Song" and "Boo Fucking Hoo".

Other highlights of Soho's Christmas season include the return of Phil Porter's play Blink to the Soho Upstairs, following a run in Bangalore, India, and the London transfer of Bridget Christie's Edinburgh Comedy Award-winning show A Bic for Her.

Across town at Southwark Playhouse, the Christmas season features panto Jack and the Beanstalk in the main house and a new comedy about Captain Scott’s race to the South Pole in the studio.

Co-produced in 'The Large' with site-specific specialists Goat & Monkey, Jack and the Beanstalk is written by Toby Hulse and directed by Joel Scott, and runs from 6 December to 11 January.

It's the first panto that Southwark Playhouse, which recently relocated to a temporary space in Elephant and Castle, has staged since Aladdin with Omid Djalili in 1996.

Meanwhile in 'The Little', The Last March (11 December-4 January) is billed as a "thrilling comedy of Captain Scott’s last daring bid to conquer the South Pole". Created by Tinder Theatre, it's directed by Ian Nicholson.
