Shakespeare's Globe reports record income in 2013 – infographic

Shakespeare's Globe has released its annual review, revealing that turnover at the venue increased to £21million, while audience capacity for its Shakespeare productions hit 96%.

But the "outstanding achievement" of the year, says the report, was the opening of the 340-seat indoor Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, which was constructed with no public funding.

Over £7.3m of the £7.5m target has been reached for the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, which was officially opened by Prince Philip in November. Its first production, The Duchess of Malfi starring Gemma Arterton, opened on 9 January 2014.

Over 600,000 theatregoers saw a Globe production in 2013, including tours. Later this year the company is launching a production of Hamlet that aims to visit every country in the world over the next two years.

The Globe's income was £19,789m, up from £17,834m in 2012, while expenditure was just under £18m (up from £17.3m the previous year).
