New Home for Scottish Ballet

Scottish Ballet officially occupies its new home in Glasgow at the end of the month. Designed by award-winning Malcolm Fraser Architects as part of the Tramway complex, it replaces its previous home of 31 years in the city which suffered from numerous problems including a lack of space, poor ventilation, sewage flooding and asbestos.

A company spokeperson said: “Our new home means we will be able to fulfill our potential as Scotland’s national dance company. It gives us proper facilities, and the room to further develop our repertoire, education programme, and partnerships and perspectives.”

Scottish Ballet is the last of several dance companies, academies and theatres to benefit from significant re-builds or refurbishments. In recent years, Sadler’s Wells, the Royal Ballet School, The Place and Laban have all received major investment.

In further announcements, Scottish Ballet performs at the Edinburgh International Festival (4, 5 September), and celebrates its 40 anniversary with a touring mixed bill and exhibition. Its new BA Modern Ballet, in association with the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, launches this September.
