Michelle Terry to star as Lady Macbeth alongside her husband as Macbeth in Globe's winter season

Sean Holmes will also be associate artistic director of the venue

Casting has been announced for Shakespeare's Globe's winter season, with artistic director Michelle Terry starring as Lady Macbeth opposite her husband, Paul Ready.

The opening production of the season is Macbeth, directed by Robert Hastie and features the real-life couple alongside Catrin Aaron (Lennox), Philip Cumbus (Banquo), Marc Elliott (Ross), Joseph Marcell (Duncan and Porter), Anna-Maria Nabirye (Macduff), Kirsty Rider (Lady Macduff), Philippine Velge (Donalbain) and Kit Young (Malcolm).

The show runs from 7 November to 2 February, ahead of Doctor Faustus, which will be directed by Paulette Randall. Doctor Faustus will star Pauline McLynn as Mephistopheles and will run from 1 December to 2 February. McLynn's previous work includes Cymbeline, The Knight of the Burning Pestle and Father Ted.

Richard II is co-directed by Adjoa Andoh and Lynette Linton and will star Adjoa in the titular role. The production will feature the first ever company of women of colour in a Shakespeare play on a major UK stage. Andoh's previous work includes Ulysses in Troilus and Cressida at the RSC and Leave Taking at the Bush Theatre. The production runs from 22 February to 21 April.

Sean Holmes, who recently announced he was stepping down from being artistic director of the Lyric Hammersmith, is to take up the position of associate artistic director. He is announced alongside associates such as Athena Stevens, Brendan O'Hea, Federay Holmes, and Siân Williams.
