Exclusive: Joanne Clifton to star in Thoroughly Modern Millie UK tour

The ”Strictly” dancer will star in the tour which will start at the New Wimbledon Theatre in January 2017

Thoroughly Modern Millie is set to tour the UK from January 2017, WhatsOnStage can exclusively announce.

Strictly Come Dancing star Joanne Clifton will take on the titular role of Millie Dillmount, a Kansas girl who moves to New York determined to make it big in the Big Apple. Her previous credits include Face the Music, Burn the Floor, and Norma Jeane the Musical.

Featuring songs such as "Gimme Gimme" and "Not for the Life of Me", the musical is based on the 1967 film starring Julie Andrews and first opened on Broadway in 2002.

It will be directed and choreographed by Gary Lloyd, with a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, new music by Jeanine Tesori
 and new lyrics by Dick Scanlan.

The tour will begin at the New Wimbledon Theatre on 17 January 2017 before touring to Milton Keynes, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, York, High Wycombe, Southsea, Aylesbury, Brighton, Dartford, Leeds, Llandudno, Woking, Manchester, Dartford, Bromley, Bristol and Newcastle.
