Guests including Arinzé Kene, Marianne Elliott and Will Poulter came to the Young Vic for the opening night of Kate Hewitt's revival of Jesus Hopped the A Train, which is staged in London for the first time in almost nine years.

The piece, penned by Stephen Adly Guirgis, first ran in 2000 in New York with direction by Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2003 following its UK premiere at Donmar Warehouse in 2002.

Set inside the lockdown wing of Rikers Island prison, the piece follows a young man accused of murdering a cult leader. In her four-star review critic Sarah Crompton described it as "brave and always engrossing".

Hewitt's revival has design by Magda Willi, costumes by Kinnetia Isidore, design by Guy Hoare, sound design by Peter Rice, movement by Imogen Knight and casting by Julia Horan and Jim Carnahan.
