Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which recently won six Tony Awards on Broadway, will premiere in San Francisco in autumn 2019.

JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany's production, which first premiered in London in 2016 (where it went on to win the most Olivier Awards in history), will, by autumn 2019, be playing in at least four locations across the world simultaneously.

The piece will open at the 1600-seat Curran Theatre, which recently presented the Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said in a joint statement, "The beautiful and historic Curran in San Francisco is the perfect theatre for the next North American company of Cursed Child. We are delighted that ATG and Carole Shorenstein Hays have worked their magic to provide the ideal West Coast home for the production."

Information on performance dates, purchasing tickets, casting and all further details will be announced in the coming months.

The production continues the Harry Potter story, set after the conclusion of the seventh book and following Harry's relationship with his son Albus. It features movement by Steven Hoggett, set by Christine Jones, costumes by Katrina Lindsay, music and arrangements by Imogen Heap, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gareth Fry, illusions and magic by Jamie Harrison, music supervision and arrangements by Martin Lowe.
