Grange Park Opera Announces 2010 Season

Grange Park Opera has announced its Summer season for 2010. The thought of country house opera in the sunshine might be just what we need as Winter approaches and Grange Park have a particularly enticing line-up for next year.

Richard Strauss’ wonderful late comedy Capriccio will be the first of the composer’s operas to be staged there. Directed by Stephen Medcalf and starring Susan Gritton as the Countess and a very strong supporting cast, including Andrew Kennedy, Roderick Williams, Matthew Best and Sara Fulgoni, it opens on 4 June.

Prokofiev’s strange and rather special fantasy opera The Love of Three Oranges will follow, with Clive Bayley (ENO’s current Bluebeard) and Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts.

The season will open with Tosca, starring Clive Rutter, who impressed many with her Norma at the venue this year. Peter Auty sings Cavaradossi and Robert Poulton is Scarpia in Lindsay Posner’s production.

Located in Alresford, not far from Winchester, Hampshire, The Grange is one of the loveliest settings for Summer opera (and a good deal cheaper than Glyndebourne).
