Meet the West End cast of Hamilton

As the final lead actors are confirmed to play in the upcoming London production of Lin Manuel Miranda’s musical, we list who they are and what they’ve done so far

Welcome to the cast for the hottest musical theatre event to hit the West End for an exceptionally long time. Opening later this year at the Victoria Palace Theatre, Hamilton is Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical masterpiece about the beginnings of America. Here are the show's lead roles and who will be playing them.

Jamael Westman

Jamael Westman: Alexander Hamilton

An absolute newcomer, Jamael Westman is to take on the role of Alexander Hamilton, the part Lin-Manuel Miranda originally played. The south London boy trained at RADA and is 25 years-old and only just out of drama school. He has previously been seen on stage in Torn at the Royal Court, and The White Devil at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. What a way to start your professional career. Blimey.

Giles Terera: Aaron Burr

Giles’ legendary skills have seen him cross effortlessly over from musical theatre to straight theatre and back again. He was hilarious as Gary Coleman in Avenue Q, and has also starred as Mafala Hatimbi in The Book of Mormon. You may have also recently caught his Slow Drag in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom opposite Sharon D Clarke at the National Theatre last year. Giles takes up the mantel of Hamilton’s political rival Aaron Burr.

Michael Jibson: King George

Michael earned an Olivier Award nomination at the tender age of 22, when he starred in the Madness musical Our House in 2003. Since then he’s worked most places, including the Donmar Warehouse, Menier Chocolate Factory, Manchester Royal Exchange and Shakespeare’s Globe. Here he’ll be playing the man who lost Britain’s American colonies King George.

Rachelle Ann Go: Eliza Schuyler Hamilton

A household name for musical theatre aficionados, Rachelle starred as Gigi in the 2014 London revival of Miss Saigon and is currently starring in the role on Broadway. Previous to this she played Fantine in Les Miserables – on the West End and on the Asia tour. She’s starring as Eliza, Hamilton’s wife.

Rachel John : Angelica Schuyler

Angelica is the sister of Eliza Hamilton and will be played in the West End by Rachel John. Her West End credits include Nicki Marron in the recent run of The Bodyguard, Felicia in Memphis and Meat in We Will Rock You.

Jason Pennycooke: Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson

Jason is an Olivier nominated actor, who has trod the boards at the Old Vic, the Savoy and more. He starred as Bobby Dupree in Memphis and Jacob in La Cage Aux Folles at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2007. His talents stretch backstage too, as he choreographed the 2016 revival of Five Guys Named Moe. He’s playing Lafayette – a close friend of Hamilton’s – and Jefferson – another founding father.

Obioma Ugoala: George Washington

Taking on the rather daunting task of embodying the first President of the United States is Obioma. He most recently starred in Motown the Musical as Smokey Robinson and has worked extensively for the RSC and Shakespeare’s Globe and also starred in The Physicists at the Donmar Warehouse in 2012.

Cleve September: John Laurens/Philip Hamilton

Playing the parts of anti-slavery campaigner Laurens (and friend of Hamilton) and Philip Hamilton – the eldest child of Alexander – is Cleve. His credits include Sonny in Lin-Manuel Miranda's other London hit In the Heights at the King’s Cross Theatre and Tommy Keeler in Annie Get Your Gun at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.


Christine Allado
Christine Allado

Christine Allado: Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds

Christine doubles in this show as Peggy (sister-in-law of Hamilton) and Maria (Hamilton’s mistress). Her previous credits include played Vanessa in In The Heights at the King’s Cross Theatre. And you may have caught her understudying the role of Imelda in Here Lies Love – David Byrne’s madcap but brilliant musical – at the National Theatre.

Tarinn Callender: Hercules Mulligan/James Madison

What a first job this will be for Tarinn, who is right on the cusp of graduating from ArtsEd this summer. Hamilton marks his professional and West End debut. Keep your eyes on this one. He’s playing Hercules – a friend of Hamilton and James Madison, another founding father.


Hamilton will open at the Victoria Palace Theatre on 21 December, with previews from 6 December.
