Five Reasons to See… City Love

Simon Vinnicombe’s new play ”City Love” opens at the CLF Arts cafe next week (10 September). Here the company give us five reasons to go…

1) A striking new play by an award-winning writer

Writer Simon Vinnicombe takes a funny and unflinching look at how trivial insecurities can send us crashing into self-destruction. Sharp observations transform the mundane into the epic, and Vinnicombe’s slick, witty and agonisingly accurate text will pierce the heart of anyone who has ever been in love #breaksyourheartwhileyourelaughing

2) Atmospheric and trendsetting venue

The CLF Art Cafe in Peckham Rye's Bussey Building is an atmospheric, vibrant and still somewhat undiscovered venue with views across the London skyline. Host to the Royal Court’s ‘Theatre Local’ seasons and dubbed “the urban equivalent of the Secret Garden” (Observer, 2011), this urban space provides the perfect setting for City Love, Simon Vinnicombe’s London-centred story.

3) Talented cast and creatives

Currently on commission from the National Theatre and the Soho Theatre, Simon Vinnicombe is a former winner of the Peggy Ramsay Pearson Award for playwrights and was a member of the BBC Writers Academy. Sarah Bedi (OffWestEnd Awards nominee 2011 and 2013) directs Ian Bonar (Brilliant Adventures – Royal Exchange, Going Postal – Sky, Black Mirror – C4, Skyfall ) and Natasha Broomfield (Chariots of Fire – West End, Greenland – NT, 13 – NT) as they bring City Love‘s endearingly complicated characters to life.
The premiere of City Love is supported by Arts Council England. The play text is published by Methuen, Bloomsbury.

4) A must-see for Londoners

A chance meeting on a London night bus causes Lucy and Jim to spiral into a world of love, pain and (mis)communication. As writer Simon Vinnicombe describes, "Love leaves its indelible mark on all of us, nothing can ever be the same again. I’d say the same thing about London too.”

5) Missed the Edinburgh Festival?

If you missed the delights of the Festival this year (or if you're wallowing in sadness to be back home), City Love provides a fix of fantastic theatre on your doorstep. Come down to the Bussey Building, have a drink with friends and an artisan sausage roll and see Simon Vinnicombe's striking new play.
