Listen! Dreamgirls heading to the West End?

The Daily Mail has reported that Sonia Friedman has acquired the rights to bring the show to the West End

After opening on Broadway in 1981, legendary musical Dreamgirls – which was made into a film starring Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy in 2006 – is finally coming to the West End according to Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail.

With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen, the musical tells the story of a young female singing trio called "The Dreams" and their rise to stardom in the Sixties.

According to Baz, producer (and recent WhatsOnStage Award-winner) Sonia Friedman has acquired the rights for a full West End production, and talks are underway for the show to be directed by Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin)

Planning is very much in the early stages and no possible venue or casting has been mentioned, however it is believed that the production will be coming to London towards the end of 2016/beginning of 2017.

This time last year we suggested our dream cast for a potential West Run of Dreamgirls, you can see if you agree here.
