Dance Nation at the Almeida casting announced

The award-winning play has its UK premiere at the end of the summer

Casting has been announced for the UK premiere of Clare Barron's Dance Nation, which opens at the Almeida in September.

Directed by Bijan Sheibani, the piece follows an army of competitive dancers burning to fulfil their ambitions. It won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Relentless Award when it first premiered off-Broadway in May this year.

The Almeida production will star Brendan Cowell (Life of Galileo) as Dance Teacher Pat, Nancy Crane (Summer and Smoke) as Maeve, Karla Crome (Amadeus) as Amina, Miranda Foster (Years of Sunlight) as The Moms / Vanessa, Sarah Hadland (The Way of the World) as Sofia, Kayla Meikle (A Midsummer Night's Dream) as Ashlee, Irfan Shamji (One for Sorrow) as Luke, Manjinder Virk (Bodies) as Connie and Ria Zmitrowicz (Gundog) as Zuzu.

It will feature design by Samal Blak, choreography by Aline David, costume by Moritz Junge, lighting by Lee Curran, sound and composition by Marc Teitier, casting by Amy Ball and dialect coaching by Brett Tyne.
