Damian Lewis will star in a West End production of David Mamet's American Buffalo, opening at Wyndham's Theatre in April 2015.

Daniel Evans' production will have a limited run, from 16 April to 27 June 2015.

David Mamet's 1975 play examines the fickle nature of honour among thieves, following three small-time crooks planning a heist. The film version in 1996 starred Dennis Franz, Dustin Hoffman and Sean Nelson.

Damian Lewis will return to the West End stage for the first time since 2009, when he starred in The Misanthrope opposite Keira Knightley. He is known for television roles including Nicholas Brody in Homeland, as well as Band of Brothers and The Forsyte Saga.

Sheffield Theatres artistic director Daniel Evans' recent productions include WhatsOnStage Award-nominated Oliver!, The Full Monty, and My Fair Lady.

Tickets for the production, for which further casting is to be announced, go on sale today.
