Contemporary Companies Dominate Olivier Dance

Contemporary dance companies, and designers working in contemporary sector, were the most nominated in this year’s Laurence Olivier Awards for Dance, the shortlist for which has just been announced.

Rambert Dance Company, Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, Irish dancer Colin Dunne, and lighting designer Michael Hulls are on this year’s shortlist. Independent dance maker Kim Brandstrup scoops a nomination with Tamara Rojo for their modern piece in the Opera House’s Linbury Studio Theatre, while Birmingham Royal Ballet is nominated for company director David Bintley’s contemporary-style E=mc². It could be the second of two wins, as Bintley’s ballet has just won the last ever South Bank Show Award for Dance.

The 34th Laurence Olivier Awards ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on Sunday 21 March.
