Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has extended its run at Theatre Royal Drury Lane until 4 June 2016.

The show, directed by Sam Mendes, has also broken the record for the highest weekly gross sales at the venue for a third time, taking more than £1.1 million in the week commencing 29 December 2014.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory celebrated its 700th performance in the West End on Saturday (24 January 2015).

Adapted from Roald Dahl's much-loved book, the production features music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman, a book by David Greig, set and costume designs by Mark Thompson and choreography by Peter Darling.

Alex Jennings plays enigmatic chocolatier Willy Wonka, having taken over from the role's originator Douglas Hodge.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Neal Street Productions and Langley Park Productions.

The new booking period will go on sale on 9 February 2015.
