Full casting has been announced for Caroline Byrne's upcoming production The Taming of the Shrew, which opens at Shakespeare's Globe in May.

Featuring an all Irish company, the cast includes Kathy Rose O'Brien as Katherine and Edward MacLiam as Petruchio. O'Brien's recent theatre include Baddies the Musical (Unicorn Theatre), In Skagway (Arcola Theatre) and Bedroom Farce (Gate Theatre) whilst MacLiam has had recent screen roles in Angel, Run and Jump, for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor from the Irish Film & Television Academy 2014, and the recurring role of Greg Douglas in BBC One's Holby City.

They will be joined by Imogen Doel – recently seen in The Importance of Being Earnest (West End) for which she received a Best Supporting Actress in a Play nomination in the 2016 WhatsOnStage Awards – as Tranio and Aaron Heffernan (The Importance of Being Earnest, Tiny Dynamite, Samuel Beckett Theatre) as Lucentio.

The cast will be completed by Amy Conroy, Louis Dempsey, Sean Fox, Colm Gormley, Genevieve Hulme-Beaman, Raymond Keane, Gary Lilburn, Molly Logan, Helen Norton and Ayoola Smart.

The production marks the centenary of the Easter Rising by revisiting 1916 Ireland and remembering the role of women in the fight for independence.

The Taming of the Shrew runs at Shakespeare's Globe from 20 May to 6 August.
