Carrie musical to play at Southwark Playhouse

A reworking of the musical based on Stephen King’s book will open in May

A revised version of the musical Carrie: The Musical, based on the novel by Stephen King, is coming to the Southwark Playhouse in May.

Gary Lloyd (Thriller Live) will direct the production which tells the story of an American schoolgirl with hyperkinetic powers who gets back at all those who tormented her.

The show was originally produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1988 but was plagued by script and techinical problems. However the new production has been reworked by original composers Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore and writer Lawrence D Cohen and played off Broadway in 2009.

The new version will run at the Southwark Playhouse from 1 to 30 May 2015. Casting is yet to be announced.

Carrie is presented by Paul Taylor-Mills Ltd, who return to Southwark Playhouse following their productions of In The Heights and Bat Boy: The Musical.
