Battersea Arts Centre announces new award to develop mid-scale work

Battersea Arts Centre has launched a new award to help artists making work for small-scale venues to create work for bigger spaces.
The award, which is £4,000, is offered to an artist who has not presented work on a mid-scale before. It also offers three weeks of residency, tickets to the shows in the Phoenix season and the opportunity to present work in the Grand Hall.
Scratch, a process at the heart of Battersea Arts Centre's Work, will be key to the way the Phoenix Award works. Scratch offers a way of testing and development of an idea with the public and enabled companies like Little Bulb to create Orpheus, which played in the Grand Hall.
Also announced in Battersea Arts Centre's newly announced season – the first with the reopening of the Grand Hall following a fire in 2015 – will be Curtain Raisers. The initiative offers a chance for social entrepreneurs, local charities and voluntary groups to present their work.
The new season also includes productions from Bryony Kimmings and more.
