Anne Reid, Hugh Skinner and Mark Gatiss join the cast of The York Realist on opening night

The cast of The York Realist joined stars to celebrate the show's opening at the Donmar Warehouse last night.

Mark Gatiss attended the revival of Peter Gill's play which stars Ben Batt and Jonathan Bailey as an actor and assistant director who embark upon a relationship in Yorkshire in the 1960s.

Anne Reid also appeared at the performance, having opened in the role of Mother when the piece first premiered in 2001. The role is currently played by Lesley Nichol. Robert Hastie directs the piece, which will run in Sheffield following its dates in London.

The York Realist runs at the Donmar Warehouse until 24 March, and at Sheffield Crucible from 27 March to 7 April.
