Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony and Olivier Award-nominated musical The Woman in White returns to London for its first revival. Directed by Thom Southerland, the production will run for 12 weeks at the Charing Cross Theatre from November 2017.

Adapted from Wilkie Collins’ haunting Victorian thriller, the performance will also premiere Lloyd Webber and David Zippel‘s revised score. The pair are keen to revisit the story for the sake of a new generation of theatregoers.

Southerland, artistic director at Charing Cross, said: "I am so excited about this new production. The Woman in White is a wildly exciting romantic thriller which is frequently tender and personal. The music is grand, sweeping and instantly captivating."

The Woman in White is a rousing musical based on the life of Walter Hartright, changed forever after a chance encounter with a mysterious woman, dressed in white, desperate to reveal her chilling secret. The musical premiered at the Palace Theatre in 2004.

The production reunites Southerland with set designer Morgan Large, costume designer Jonathan Lipman and sound designer Andrew Johnson, further featuring lighting design from Rick Fisher.

Also announced today is the world stage premiere of Jack Rosenthal's The Knowledge in September, directed by Maureen Lipman. Set against the backdrop of the harsh economic times of 1979, the comedy follows the struggles of four Londoners as they better themselves by attempting the fearsome "Knowledge" – the process of becoming a London black cab taxi driver. Lipman, Rosenthal's widow, starred in the original 1979 television adaptation.

The Woman in White runs at the Charing Cross Theatre from Monday 20 November until February 10 2018. The Knowledge opens on 11 September with previews from 4 September .
