Shelly and friends all have dreams and aspirations but find themselves stuck packing fish for a living. On a day trip out to celebrate Pearl's retirement, the girls manage to get into Ladies Day for a day they will never forget.

Ladies Day is Ken Alexandra's first production as artistic director at the Royal Court Theatre and he is joined by a fantastic cast. Roxanne Pallett brings the laughs as she tries to find herself her dream footballer boyfriend in hopes to leave the fish behind for the glamour of her own salon.

Angela Simms plays the role of innocent Linda brilliantly, gaining the sympathy of the audience and reminding us what we should be grateful for. Pearl and Jan display a truly warm friendship as they reveal shocking truths to one another, teaching the audience not to give up hope and to take the opportunities that are given. Jack Lord is given all of the male roles throughout the show, of which he takes in his stride and delivers well given the diversity of each character including the emotional differences.

There are laughs throughout, and the set and props are simple yet effective thanks to designer Richard Foxton. The play feels slow at times with a lack of strong development, but it is entertaining, with strong performances that bring laughs to all.
