Unity celebrates Christmas with Rumplestiltskin

The company teams up with Action Transport Theatre to present a classic for Christmas.

unitytheatre are working with specialist children's theatre company, Action Transport Theatre (Hansel & Gretel, The Pied Piper) to bring their Christmas production, Rumplestiltskin to life.

The piece is written by Kevin Dyer and directed by Nina Hajiyianni. Nina’s past work includes large-scale community plays including Fire From Heaven and Genesis, a Wellcome Trust-funded object theatre performance (which resulted in Nina being shortlisted for the Puppet Centre Trust Outstanding Achievement Award in 2006).

She has also directed site-specific workin museums and outdoor spaces as Associate Director with CTC Theatre (now Theatre Hullabaloo). Nina has also worked with Live Theatre, Northern Stage, Headway Theatre, Welfare State International, Customs House, North Tyneside Youth Theatres, Durham City Arts and Fuse.

Kevin Dyer is the Associate Writer at Action Transport Theatre. He works as a dramaturg and leads sessions for writers and people who want to write. Kevin has written over 50 commissioned plays.

His other plays include an adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover, Baghdad Zoo, The Bridge and Thank God for Cod! about the myth of man trying to catch the biggest fish in the sea. He was short listed for the Brian Way Award for Sixth Senseand has had work produced for BBC Radio 4.

The cast includes; Aiden Lee Brooks, Dora Colquhoun, Cameron McKendrick, and Shaun Roberts, with Patrick Dineen composing the music.

Rumplestiltskin runs at Unity from 2 December – 10 January.
