Lovesong

Pleasance Dome
5 – 21 August, 17.20

Lovesong, a one man musical monologue, is a collaboration between Omar and Che Walker. The same pair worked together on the soul musical, Been So Long, which was a festival hit last year at the Traverse.

The story is of a once famous singer, eking out a living performing his old hits in dodgy clubs and staying in budget hotels. The drugs and one night stands, sometimes with prostitutes, do not fill the gap left in his life and his heart by the departure of his girlfriend. The yearning for a meaningful relationship is fulfilled by a surprising turn of events.

The play is beautifully performed by Omar, who also sings his own jazzy, soulful songs and sensitively directed by Walker. Occasionally bleak but with a lot of wry humour, Lovesong, is a rather heart-warming tale and a little gem of a one man musical.
