Cactus – The Seduction

Assembly George Street
5  – 29 August, 18.50

New Zealander, Jonno Katz takes us on a wonderful journey in this hour long solo show, which is a wonderfully original and refreshing concoction, directed by Mark Chavez. Part stand-up, part mime, part play, part story-telling and completely captivating. We cross the desert with Katz, or Phil as he is in the story and his travelling companions, Yuri and Eric. All three are on a quest for love and we laugh along the way and are touched by the conclusion.

With the part unzipping of his top, we repeatedly return to reality (or Katz’s version of it) and to very amusing clowning and wordplay. I suppose all of the elements in this show have been done before in one form or another but I doubt they have been so skilfully blended together into a colourful and tasty smoothie of a show.

This is intelligent and thought-provoking comedy but delivered by such a likeable performer that it never becomes patronising. It is, above all, entertaining, imaginative and winningly delivered.
