Opera North's acclaimed production of Carousel is returning to the UK for a tour in the new year. Directed by Jo Davies, the production was first seen in 2012 when it transferred to the Barbican.

UK venues for the 2015 tour include Leeds Grand Theatre (13-23 May), Theatre Royal Norwich (28-30 May) and Edinburgh Festival Theatre (2-6 June).

The cast includes Keith Higham as Billy Bigelow, Gillene Butterfield as Julie Jordan and Yvonne Howard as Nettie.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical is a romantic fantasy from both Heaven and Earth, tracking the tragic New England love story of fast-talking carousel barker Billy Bigelow and naïve mill worker Julie Jordan.

Premiered on Broadway in 1945, it was subsequently made into a Hollywood film starring Shirley Jones and Gordon McRae. The score includes "Mister Snow", "Soliloquy", "What's the Use of Wond'rin" and "You'll Never Walk Alone".

Following its UK dates Carousel will transfer to Dublin's Bord Gais Energy Theatre for a run from 10 to 13 June.
