Bonneville plays the Chronicles of Narnia writer C S Lewis in the piece, which explores the novelist's relationship with New York poet Joy Gresham (White). Nicholson's play first premiered in 1989, winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Play and going on to be nominated for a Tony Award. It was adapted into a film in 1993.

The revival is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh (Half a Sixpence), with design by Peter McKintosh, lighting by Howard Harrison, music by Catherine Jayes and sound by Fergus O'Hare.
