”Assassins” musical to be revived with initial cast revealed
Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Tony Award-winning musical Assassins is set to run at Chichester Festival Theatre this summer.
Following individuals who either attempt or succeed in assassinating US presidents, the show had originally been set for a season in Chichester in 2020 before being disrupted by the pandemic.
Polly Findlay (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie) will direct the new production, which plays from 3 to 24 June in the venue’s Festival Theatre.
Set to appear in the production are Amy Booth-Steel (Tammy Faye) as Moore, Luke Brady (The Prince of Egypt) as Zangara, Carly Mercedes Dyer (WhatsOnStage Award winner for Anything Goes) as Fromme, Harry Hepple (Hamilton) as Guiteau, Nick Holder (The Threepenny Opera) as Byck, Danny Mac (Pretty Woman the Musical) as Booth, Sam Oladeinde (Come From Away) as Czolgosz and Jack Shalloo (Girl From The North Country) as Hinckley. Further casting is to be revealed.
The production’s creative team includes designer Lizzie Clachan, choreographer Neil Bettles, musical supervisor Richard John, musical director Jo Cichonska, lighting designer Richard Howell, sound designer Gregory Clarke, video designer Akhila Krishnan, fight director Kate Waters and casting directors Charlotte Sutton CDG and Christopher Worrall.
