North East led cast for Steel Magnolias

Robert Harling’s 1987 play Steel Magnolias is set to make its Newcastle debut later this month with six leading ladies from the worlds of stage and screen at the helm.

Featuring alongside North East star Denise Welch, who plays Truvy (a part Dolly Parton made iconic in the 1987 movie) are Kacey Ainsworth (Annelle), Isla Blair (M’Lynn), Cheryl Campbell (Ouiser), Cherie Lunghi (Clairee) and Sadie Pickering (Shelby) in Newcastle 28 May to 2 June.

Steel Magnolias is a heart-warming and bittersweet tale exploring the special bond between six friends living in the small town of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Brought together in Truvy’s beauty parlour, they share each other’s strength and loyalty, and survive the cycles of life, birth and death to emerge stronger, closer and still laughing. Robert Harling wrote the play as a form of therapy following the death of his sister from diabetes.

Steel Magnolias appears at Newcastle Theatre Royal from 28 May – 2 June 2012. Tickets are £9.00 – £30.00 and can be purchased from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 08448 11 21 21 or select your own seat and book online at the Theatre Royal website.
