Drama Desk Nominations Wonderful for Day

My Wonderful Day, which premiered at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre, has been nominated for two Drama Desk Awards. Following its UK run, Day toured to New York’s 59E59 Theaters as part of the ‘Brits Off Broadway’ Festival.

Written and directed by Alan Ayckbourn, the production has been recognised in the categories of Outstanding Play and Outstanding Actress in a Play for Ayesha Antoine. The twenty-eight-year-old has received acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic for her performance as nine-year-old Winnie.

For Outstanding Play, Day is up against Circle Mirror Transformation, Happy Now?, Red, Next Fall and Clybourne Park. Antoine’s fellow Outstanding Actress nominees are Melissa Errico, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Johnston, Laura Linney and Jan Maxwell.

The Drama Desk awards have been presented annually since 1955. They honour Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway productions.

The 55th Annual Drama Desk Awards will be held on 23 May 2010 in the LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City.
