Boys and girls aged 5 to 14 years and of all ethnicities are invited to apply. Candidates must have dark hair and the ability to sing and dance. The theatre company said no previous experience is necessary, just a “great deal of energy and enthusiasm”.

Candidates must be available to attend the following audition times (applicable to their age):

Once a completed application form is received, Liverpool Empire will contact applicants with confirmed details and times of auditions. No alternative dates or times can be offered.

The Empire said auditionees do not need to prepare anything but will be taught some of the music and movement that the children perform in the show to assess their aptitude and ability to take direction and pick up the song and dance sequences.

Young people will be notified by email within two weeks from the audition as to whether they have been chosen to be part of the cast of The King and I.

Rehearsals will be held in Liverpool in March 2012. Those chosen must be in available for the rehearsal period from 16–18 March and for the full run of the show 2–7 April 2012. Each child will perform in a maximum of four shows.

Those who are cast in the show will be required to miss some school time, with hours to be confirmed.

The Empire Theatre will be applying for a Children’s Performance Licence for each child. It will be the parent/guardian’s responsibility to complete and return any paperwork relating to this process in full & on time.

This is an unpaid opportunity.
