If you are seeking an alternative to the Christmas Pantomime - as December approaches then the Royal Exchange in Manchester may have the production for you.

The 1930s Broadway hit You Can't Take It With You is being revived this Christmas in association with Told by an Idiot. The piece is described as a mad and eccentric celebration of family.

The bohemian Vanderhofs firmly believe people follow their dreams so long as it makes you happy, while the conventional Kirbys believe in the pursuit of money and the American Dream. But when granddaughter Alice falls in love with the Kirbys banker son, mayhem ensues as values and philosophy collide head-on.

On directing duties is Paul Hunter with design by Laura Hopkins, Lighting Design by Philip Gladwell, and Sound by Adrienne Quartly.

You Can't Take It With You runs at the Royal Exchange from 7 December 2011 - 14 January, 2012.
