Liverpool Playhouse Bring Gangster Arturo to the stage

Fresh from the success of Tartuffe – the Liverpool Playhouse plays host to the work of Bertolt Brecht with The Resistible rise of Arturo Ui which opens there later this month.

The playis set in 1930s Chicago. A time of unemployment. A time of fear. A time of corruption. A time for a small time gangster and his army to seize absolute power…

Written by Liverpool playwright Stephen Sharkey (The May Queen) this new potent translation of Brecht’s shocking 1941 satire of Hitler’s rise to power is directed by Walter Meierjohann and he promises that the play has never been more relevant than now.

The production stars Ian Bartholomew as title character and also features Leanne Best as Barker – who has enjoyed success recently playing Gayle McIntyre amongst many others in Corrie! 

The Resistible rise of Arturo Ui is designed by Ti Green with lighting by Mike Gunning and runs from 30 September – 22 October.
