Five Reasons To See … Celluloid
Following success with Dream On, local theatre company Dream Avenue bring Celluloid to fringe venue Three Minute Theatre at Afflecks Palace in Manchester next month. We asked Director Lloyd Eyre-Morgan for his five reasons why you should go along.
1. Captivating mystery intertwined with 3 character crossroads.
Dawn’s mental stability is cracking, these cracks spread across to her family causing dark consequences for the people she loves most. 15 year old Joshua escapes his mother’s breakdown through watching the world from behind a camera, documenting everything around him. Daughter Nicola finds alternate darker methods to escape her family dysfunction. The cause of Dawns breakdown is under investigation, with Dave her therapist taking her back to events from her childhood using regression therapy accusations of false memory syndrome arise. Is Dave planting dark memories in Dawns head? Or is something even more sinister at work?
2. Dream Avenue’s 2nd Production.
Set up by Lloyd Eyre-Morgan and Joe Gosling. We specialise in creating new original pieces of theatre around the North West. Our previous production Dream On had a successful sell out tour around Manchester and Liverpool and is about to be turned into a feature film by Wiginabox productions. Celluloid is Dream Avenue’s first venture in combining film and theatre to create a new experience for audiences; we guarantee a fantastic adventure into the depths of family dysfunction and the human psyche.
3. It’s a multimedia performance
By combining action across both stage and screen, we are able to portray live performance on two platforms giving an exiting contemporary feel to the performance. Discover secrets from the family’s history through old home videos, where secrets will be revealed as the past becomes the present… remember the camera never lies.
4. An original subject matter
The stimulus for the performance came from research into false memory syndrome and the effects of regression therapy on a patient’s mental state. This topic is rarely covered and will give you an opportunity to see a performance based around something new and captivating.
5. The Three Minute Theatre
Celluloid will be premiering at The Three Minute Theatre, a new theatre space in central Manchester dedicated to promoting and producing new and original work. Dream Avenue are The Three Minute Theatres associate theatre company and have a strong working relationship with the theatre. The theatre is run by Gina Frost and John Topliff and with over 60 years performance experience between them are fully equipped to run what is becoming a new hotspot for emerging theatre and local talent.
