Radcliffe replaces Jones in Fireflies World Premiere at Lowry

Oldham born actress, Suranne Jones is making no longer starring in the Lowry’s in-house production Fireflies, directed by Noreen Kershaw. She has been replaced by Naomi Radcliffe, best known for Coronation Street. She stars alongside Brian McCardie (Rob Roy and The Damned United). No reason has been given for the cast change.

Fireflies tells the stories of Leigh and Nelson, two lonely hearts coming face to face with the reality of their lives. Told with a fierce frankness, this darkly comic and moving script brilliantly conveys their resilience in the face of hardship. This extraordinary multi-media production combines text with film and computer graphics to create visually stunning storytelling and a uniquely theatrical experience.

Director Noreen comments, “When I read the script I was immediately drawn to the humour and frankness of the story and knew at once it would transfer perfectly to stage. It’s definitely a love story for the 21st Century, something we can all identity with, the highs, the lows and the hardships we face. Leigh and Nelson have a few things in common, both unlucky in love, both resilient and both looking for a new life.”

The play is part of the Lowry’s No Boundaries season which also features Slung Low’s They Only Come At Night: Resurrection and Beyond The Front Line.

Fireflies runs from Fri 16 – Sat 31 Oct, Beyond The Front Line from Mon 5 – Sat 17 Oct and They Only Come Out At Night from Wed 2 – Sat 12 Sept.
