Robert Powell stars in King Charles III tour

The acclaimed production opens at the Birmingham Rep in September

Robert Powell play the title role in the UK tour of the Olivier Award-winning play King Charles III.

Mike Bartlett's play, which premiered at the Almeida Theatre before transferring to the West End, is a 'future history' imaging the accession to the throne of Prince Charles. Tim Pigott-Smith originated the role of Charles.

The tour opens at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre from 4 to 19 September 2015, with further dates and casting due to be announced shortly.

Powell's TV credits include Jesus of Nazareth, The Detectives and Holby City. His theatre credits include Singin' in the Rain (Palace Theatre), Ubu Roi and Pirates (both Royal Court), Travesties (RSC) and ''Tovarich (Chichester).

Directed by Almeida artistic director Rupert Goold with Whitney Mosery, King Charles III is designed by Tom Scutt, with music composed by Jocelyn Pook, lighting by Jon Clark and sound by Paul Arditti.

The tour is co-produced by Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the Almeida Theatre.
