Freddie Fox (An Ideal Husband, Travesties) will star in the titular role in the UK premiere of Edmond de Bergerac, which opens at Birmingham Rep Theatre in March.

Alexis Michalik's comedy, which won 5 Molière Awards when it first premiered in Paris, is set in 1897 and follows playwright Edmond Rostand (the writer of Cyrano de Bergerac) as he desperately tries to conquer his writer's block. He succeeds by writing a play about his problems with writing a play.

The English-language version of the show will be adapted by Jeremy Sams, and directed by Roxana Silbert, artistic director of Birmingham Rep.

Further casting and creative team members are to be announced, with the show being a co-production between the Birmingham Rep and Adam Blanshay.

The show will run from 15 to 30 March, with tickets on sale on 24 October.
