York Theatre Royal begins Family Arts Festival

Introducing a unique way for the family to spend this half-term

This half term (30 October – 2 November), as part of the national Family Arts Festival, York Theatre Royal is putting on a different kind of show – a week long Family Arts Festival to entertain everyone during the week.

Located in the beautiful De Grey Ballroom, this promises to be a brilliantly unique way to spend half term. The festival is full of food, games, adventure, song and shows, perfect to explore together. An ideal programme of events is set up so that there is something for everyone, and a variety of activities guaranteed to please the whole family.

Food and craft

You can feast at our breakfast or lunch tables while getting involved in some fun crafts. Breakfast is on from 10-11.30am every day with a serving of knitting, while lunch is at 1.30-3.30pm with extra crafts on the side

Family Zumba

After all the food, families get the chance to work it off with a family Zumba session on Wed 30 October at 3pm (£5 charge).

Storytelling workshop

Make a story together and watch it come alive in our storytelling workshop. Wednesday 30 October from 11.30am to 1.30pm (£6 charge).

Singing workshop

Learn to sing in a choir, and find out what it's like to be part of a chorus. Lots of fun songs to learn. Thursday 31 October at 11.30am (£5 charge).

Stage combat workshop

Learn to fight with instructor Liam Evans-Ford – a family fight workshop for all ages and abilities. Not to be missed! Thursday 31 October, 3pm (£6 charge).

Mimika – Small Worlds

A show specially devised for five to 11 year olds. Meet five characters, ranging from a fox cub to a six year old girl and find out how their stories interlink. It's an intimate, atmospheric and completely absorbing show. Friday 1 November (11am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 6pm) and Saturday 2 November (11am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4pm).
