Josie Rourke's acclaimed revival of Conor McPherson's modern classic transfers to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Hailed as magnificent, Josie Rourke’s production of Conor McPherson’s masterpiece The Weir sold out at the Donmar in spring 2013. Transferring to Wyndham’s Theatre in January 2014, it has been a massive hit; the production recouped in just six weeks, garnering rave reviews and audience acclaim.
The full original Donmar cast consisting of some of Ireland’s finest actors, Risteárd Cooper, Brian Cox, Dervla Kirwan, Peter McDonald and Ardal O’Hanlon (Oliver Award-nominated for his performance), reprise their roles for the West End transfer. For director Josie Rourke, the production marks the first West End transfer from the Donmar since her appointment as Artistic Director.
First premiering in 1999, The Weir won the Evening Standard, Critics’ Circle and Olivier Award for Best New Play, establishing Conor McPherson as one of the greatest playwrights of our age. Josie Rourke’s production is the first major British revival of this modern classic.
Last chance to see this smash hit in London’s West End.
London run at the Wyndham’s Theatre must end 19 April 2014.
