Buried Child is to open in the West End at Trafalgar Studios in November.

It will star husband and wife Ed Harris (Apollo 13, The Truman Show) and Amy Madigan (Twice in a Lifetime) as farmers Dodge and Halie struggling to keep their land and sanity. The pair have four Oscar nominations between them, and starred in an off-Broadway revival of the play earlier this year.

Sam Shepard's play tackles the idea of the American dream set against a backdrop of an economic slowdown.

It will open on 24 November with previews beginning on 14 November, and will run until 18 February 2017. It transfers from the Pershing Square Signature Center in New York, where it was staged by The New Group, the production company behind Jesse Eisenberg's The Spoils.

The New Group's artistic director Scott Elliott said: "Buried Child is Sam’s masterpiece and I can’t wait to get another crack at it with Shepard’s masters, Ed Harris and Amy Madigan, along with some fresh British artists."

In his review for TheaterMania, Zachary Stewart called the production "fascinating", adding it would "haunt you for days".

The play was published in 1978 and won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It opened on Broadway in 1996 and received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Play.
