Blog: #WOSOuting to The Bodyguard

Last night (12 December 2012) we took 180 theatregoers to see the Whatsonstage.com Award-nominated musical The Bodyguard, which premiered at the Adelphi Theatre last month.

Starring Heather Headley and Lloyd Owen, the show is adapted from
the hit 1992 film that made an international star of Whitney Houston,
centring on the relationship between a chart-topping singer and her
bodyguard (played on screen by Kevin Costner).

A romantic thriller, The Bodyguard features songs including “One Moment in Time”, “Saving All
My Love”, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “I Will Always Love You”.

After the show we were joined for a Q&A by cast members Lloyd Owen, Debbie Kurup, Mark Letheren and dance captain Paul Smethurst.

They talked about the reaction that they’ve had from audience members, and how the show has changed from the original workshops, through previews to where it is now.

They then discussed their motivation for joining the show, with fellow casting, the draw of director Thea Sharrock and the music all being large draws.

Kurup and Smethurst then talked about the things that they do to keep voice and body in shape, including the detailed warm ups that cast do every night. Finally, Owen talked about his fear at singing his song in front of felow cast members for the first time.

As
always, please feel free to email your comments and thoughts about the
show, as well as any of your favourite insights from last night to feedback@whatsonstage.com and don’t forget to tweet using #WOSOuting! We would love to hear from you.
