The production, which promises to take a contemporary twist on traditional burlesque, transfers from the Leicester Square Theatre where Rae, an established burlesque artist and vocalist, played a limited run earlier this year.
Directed by William Baker, whose recent West End credits include the 2007 Rent Remixed at The Duke of York’s Theatre, The Hurly Burly Show promises "spectacular costumes, sets and lighting" to "take audiences on a unique, provocative journey full of wit, joie de vivre, and celebration of the female form".
Baker has also worked with a number of pop acts, including directing music videos and live concert tours for Kylie Minogue. He is joined on the creative team for the production by musical director Steve Anderson, who has also worked with Kylie, musically directing appearances including Showgirl, X and the Sydney Olympics as well producing her song "Confide In Me" and the White Diamond film score.
Polly Rae's show started its life at the Soho Revue Bar five years ago and under the current creative team has been developed into The Hurly Burly Show. Speaking to the Evening Standard she said that the new show will include pop songs such as Michael Jackson's "Bad" and "It's A Sin" by the Pet Shop Boys, fused with big band.
