Will Mamma Mia! be the monster hit on screen that it has been on stage, where it’s been seen by more than 30 million people in 160 cities around the world since its world premiere in the West End in April 1999? The film trailer – released today – certainly looks promising. The cast is led by Meryl Streep as mother Donna. She’s joined in the cast by Brits Pierce Brosnan (as Sam), Colin Firth (Harry) Julie Walters (Rosie) and Dominic Cooper (Sky) as well as Amanda Seyfried (Sophie), Christine Baranski (Tanya) and Stellan Skarsgård (Bill).

The team behind the stage blockbuster – producer Judy Craymer, book writer Catherine Johnson and director Phyllida Lloyd – are the same team behind the Universal International picture. So will the result have ABBA singing “Thank you for the movie”? The screen version of Mamma Mia! is released in UK cinemas on 11 July 2008. For a sneak peek at the trailer, click here.
