Children's festive staple The Snowman marks another milestone this month. While Raymond Briggs’ classic illustrated book celebrated its 20th anniversary, with much fanfare in 1998, this year sees the 21st birthday of the first broadcast of Dianne Jackson’s film version, which featured Howard Blake's music and lyrics, including "Walking in the Air". It’s being commemorated with two lavish concerts, presented by Raymond Gubbay, at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and London’s Barbican, on 28 and 29 December, respectively. Meanwhile, Bill Alexander’s stage adaptation of The Snowman is back in the West End for its sixth consecutive Christmas season, continuing at the Peacock Theatre up to 11 January 2004.
